The PageRank analyzer module is designed to automatically analyze a large number of web sites and the following parameters are obtained for every site on the list:

  • Google PageRank;
  • The number of inbound links, according to various search engines;
  • The Site presence in the DMOZ and Yahoo catalogues;
  • The Web page’s TITLE text.

The PageRank parameter is worth a more detailed description.

The basic task of Search engines is to return relevant web pages in response to a search query. To facilitate this, the text of a page is analyzed. Keyword density and weight, tags used and many other parameters are all taken into account in this analysis. Obviously, most of these parameters are controlled by the author of the webpage

A check with search engine results shows many web pages (so called "doorways") that are quality optimized for popular queries but which obviously do not contain useful information for the human searcher. So, search engines cannot rank sites based only on page text; other parameters are also used.

This problem may be approached in several ways, but the most effective solution is to use the so-called link popularity parameter, which gives the page "interest value" as a numeric value. Search engines take the number and quality of inbound links into account when assessing the relevance and interest of web pages. Interesting resources will tend to have more links from other interesting resources. This is to be expected; if a site contains interesting and relevant information, it will be actively referred to by other related resources. Thus, link popularity becomes a very important factor when ranking the results of the search.

PageRank is a measure of page's importance according to Google search engine. It is possible to view one PageRank value at a time with the help of the freeware Google ToolBar. Seo Administrator is capable of automatic PageRank display for a large number of sites.

Automatic analysis of these values for a large number of sites may be used for a variety of purposes. The most obvious is estimation of competition rate based on the given URL list.

“Keywords suggestion tool” module. Selection and use of relevant keywords and keyphrases is an important task for anybody carrying out web site optimization and promotion. Large numbers of visitors alone is not the primary aim, it is important to attract targeted visitors by appropriate choice of keywords. It is important to define keywords and phrases which properly correspond to the topic of the site and which are actually used by the audience you wish to target.

The Seo Administrator Keywords suggestion tool will help you choose the best possible keyword combinations for your site by:

  • Giving recommendations for the specified phrases.
  • Estimating their competition rate.

First of all we will look at the existing sources of information on keyword popularity:

1. Keywords suggestion services. Search query statistics are provided by Overture and WordTracker. Overture is a free service while WordTracker is chargeable. However, there is also a free version of WordTracker, which supplies up to 15 suggestions for every specified word.

Here are some more details of how Seo Administrator conducts its competitor site keyword analysis. The Meta Keyword Tag was designed for listing keywords relevant to a web page. Nowadays, most search engines ignore it. However, most sites contain this tag and it is widely recommended for use for website optimization. This is the second phase of work on keyword suggestion. You need to obtain the competition rate for the phrases that you think will attract visitors to your site and choose those that will lead your site to the top of search engine result lists. You need to choose interesting phrases from the list of suggestions generated by Seo Administrator in the previous steps. Simply mark the listed items with ticks. After the resulting analysis, the following parameters will be displayed for every word and word combination:

  • Average PageRank (see below).
  • Average number of inbound links (see below).
  • The number of pages containing this word/phrase, this is the number of search results.
  • The number of pages containing an exact match of the phrase, as if the search term were placed in quotes.

To obtain the average PageRank and average number of inbound links the information for the first ten sites in the search report is collected and averaged.

If you compare the average values listed above with those of your own site, you can estimate the overall competition for the particular keyword or phrase. This allows you to estimate your site’s chances of getting near the top of the search engine results using this phrase. If a number of high-ranking sites are using it then there is little likelihood that it will drive your own site to the top. This is the final piece of information you need to decide whether to use a particular keyword or key phrase suggestion.

“HTML analyzer” module. The HTML analyzer tool analyses on-line and local HTML web pages. It allows you to dissect html text in the same way that a search engine would do it. Html analyzer may be used in several ways:

  • By monitoring keyword density and keyword weight while building and optimizing the site.
  • Detailed analyses of your competitors’ sites to obtain optimal keywords and keyphrases.
  • To ensure that your web pages are well designed and the HTML code is correctly formed.

Keyword analysis. The first report provided by the HTML analyzer contains detailed information on keywords, such as keyword weight and keyword density. The following statistics are obtained for each keyword:

Total number of occurrences – this total is a count of all word occurrences in the text, including visible text as well as invisible and administrative tags (TITLE, ALT, meta-tags, etc.).

  • Number of presences in visible text – how many times a word occurs in text that is visible to site visitors.
  • TITLE tags – shows the keywords in the page header and title tags. Search engines place special importance on the keywords included in these tags.
  • Stylistic tags – indicates if a keyword is printed in bold type or italics.
  • Link text – shows if this keyword is associated with links to other pages.
  • Alt tags – shows which words are present in image alternative tags.
  • Keywords and Description meta-tags – shows if a word is present in search engine meta-tags. The Meta Keyword Tag allowed webmasters to set keywords of the current page for search engines. The Meta Description Tag allows you to set the desired description of the current page. Meta tags are not fully used by search engines nowadays and often ignored, but their continued use is advisable when creating a new website

As well as the parameters described above, keyword weight and keyword density are shown for each keyword.

Keyword density is a measure of textual keyword frequency. For example if the text contains 100 assorted words and the given keyword occurs 5 times then its density is 5%. The density of keywords is an important parameter, which is to be taken into account when optimizing your site. A low density will cause the search engine to consider the page irrelevant for a query on that keyword. An extremely high keyword density will cause the search engine to switch on a search spam-filter and as a result, the page will be excluded from search results.

Words weight. The weight will be also defined for every word on a page. It is measure of the significance of the word.

Here are some of factors taken into account by the search engines when evaluating the word weight:

  • The total number of words.
  • The text attribute tags. For example, title, bold type and so on.
  • The distance from the beginning of the text.

For weight estimation, algorithms resembling those adopted by real search engines are used. The larger weight a word has – the more chances it has to rise higher in the results of the search. But you should be aware that excessive use of a keyword on a page may turn on the search engine spam-filter.

Keyphrases analysis. This report is similar to the previous item but displays information on key phrases as well as detailed parameters of the words in each phrase. Keywords combine to form keyphrases that are also estimated for their weight and their number of occurrences in the page text.

The evaluation of the weight of a phrase includes the following factors.

  • The weight of the words.
  • The number of phrase occurrences in the text
  • Whether the words in the phrase are together or scattered among other text.
